FC Wisconsin adds legendary coach to its Staff

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – 5.16.16.

FC Wisconsin Nationals is beyond excited to announce its newest coach to the FC Wisconsin Staff, starting in the fall of 2016, former Head Coach of Marquette University, Steve Adlard will join the club.  Coach Adlard played professionally as a player with first division Nottingham Forest before coming to the states.

Adlard started his collegiate coaching career helping to take the Evansville Aces to the NCAA Division I semi final and #1 in the country National ranking. as an assistant coach to Fred Schmalz, Adlard helped turn Evansville into a National power over the course of 4 seasons.  Adlard then took over as Head Coach of Davis and Elkins where he turned the program around with a 21-13-4 overall record and NCAA #1 ranking and National semi Final before going to UNC-Asheville.

From UNC- Asheville Adlard became the sixth head coach in the history of Marquette University.  Doing what he does, he turned around the Division I program into an immediate national contender taking teams to a #11 and #7 National Ranking.  In 1993 Adlard received the Great Lakes Coach of the Year award and in 1996 posted the most victories in a season with 16.    Adlard was also the first Marquette coach to lead the team to an NCAA birth and a share of the CUSA title in 1997.

“This is probably most exciting for me, as I know firsthand his development of players, his ability to positively impact teams and programs and his education of coaches.  Much of what we do and how we do things at FCW has some Adlard roots already in it as I have taken much of his knowledge and education that he passed on to me, and I have passed it on to players and club.  We have many drills named after Steve that we have in our curriculum.  His knowledge, experience, guidance, expertise and ability to not only teach our players but to continue to develop our coaches is immeasurable” said Co-DOC and former player for Adlard, Billy Solberg.

Steve is currently the State Technical Director for Idaho, and Boys ODP Region IV Head Coach, as well as a USSF and NSCAA Academy Coaching instructor.   Upon his return to the state, Steve will work with all teams and all goalkeepers at FC Wisconsin.  He will be at training to help teams, players, goalkeepers and coaches.  “We are beyond excited to have someone of his experience and expertise on our staff.  He is a nationally known coach in the youth soccer world, in his collegiate connections and one of the best goalkeeper trainers in the country.  His impact will be immediate for all of us!”  Said Co-DOC Ben Shepherd.

“Shelly and I are excited to be coming back to Wisconsin and I am really looking forward to working with FC, which is a prestigious club with a rich history.”

Please welcome Steve and his wife Shelly to the FC Family.  We are extremely fortunate to have him.
